Lakefield's Base Category is changing for the 2023/24 Season.

Change to Base Category

Prior to the end of the 2022/23 season, we were notified that Lakefield's Base Category would change from C to D.

This puts Lakefield in a position to play Rep teams that are more competitive with our current Centre. (Other D Centre's include Douro, Otonabee and Centre Hastings as of the 2022/23 Season) Our Base Category applies to Rep only, not Local League.

The Executive is happy with this decision as we have been trying to rebuild our Rep divisions for the past few years now.

New Executive Plans

The current Executive, led by President Miguel Hernandez Paz and other dedicated members who are determined to help make Lakefield the place where players want to play, are planning a lot of exciting changes for Lakefield.

These plans include:

*Advocating for more ice time for our players from Selwyn Council/Township so that we can provide multiple ice times per week for everyone, including and especially our younger players.

*Creating off-ice programs that will help develop our players and strengthen their cardio, stamina and athleticism.

*Providing on-ice training with goalie clinics and companies like CHE to provide player/position specific training.

*We are also currently planning to apply to move out of the Eastern Ontario Minor Hockey League and over to the Victoria Durham League as an overwhelming majority of our players have advised they want.

To all of our families who have stuck with us and supported Lakefield Minor Hockey, please know that we hear your concerns and we're fighting to get you the things you're asking for. Helping to make sure your player has the best opportunities in our Association is important to us and we have more volunteers now than we've seen in the past 7 years.

We're really excited for the upcoming season and all the plans we have and this new Base Category is a great way to start.
